On Monday, June 5, 2017, on World Environment Day, at the headquarters of the Italian Society for the International Organization (SIOI) in Rome, took place the conference: “Global Warming: the Right to Know and the responsibilities of the international community“. The event was organized by the Global Committee for the Rule of Law “Marco Pannella” (GCRL) and SIOI, together with the Nonviolent Radical Party Transnational Transparty, Hands Off Cain, Siracusa International Institute and Istituto Affari Italiani.

The conference saw the participation of many representatives of the political, academic and journalistic world, including representatives of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, the Italian Climate Network and LifeGate, and it provided the opportunity to deepen the concept of right to know, with regard to nvironmental issues and through the application of international instruments such as the Aahrus Convention which stipulates access to information, public participation in the decision-making process and access to justice in environmental matters.

The event was opened by the President of SIOI, Franco Frattini, who recalled his commitment to have Italy becoming a permanent member of the Arctic Council. He was followed by Caroline Kanter, director of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation Italia and Amb. Giulio Terzi di Sant’Agata, former Minister of Foreign Affairs and President of the GCRL. During the event, Professor Francesca Graziani also took the floor, with a insightful speech that provided a clear and concise illustration of the application of the concept of the right to know.
