Panel “SOS Rule of Law” at the UN Human Rights Council

Earlier this morning at the Palais des Nations of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva took place the panel “SOS Rule of Law”. The panel was organized by the Permanent Mission of Italy, in cooperation with the Nonviolent Radical Party Transnational Transparty with the support of the Global Committee for the Rule of Law and Hands Off Cain.

Italian Permanent Representative Maurizio Serra opened the discussion. He was followed by Permanent Representatives of Ireland and Mexico Patricia O’Brien and Jorge Lomonaco, Deputy Permanent Representative of Morocco Hassan Boukili, Legal Adviser to the Permanent Mission of Canada Esther Van Nes and member of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights Gianni Magazzeni.

The round-table discussion provided an opportunity to go about the links between rule of law, democracy, development and human rights, with a particular focus on freedom of expression and access to information and knowledge.

In the debate also partook the President of the GCRL Giulio Terzi, the leader of the Cambodian parliamentary opposition Sam Rainsy, the treasurer of Hands Off Cain Elisabetta Zamparutti and the Secretary of the GCRL Matteo Angioli.
