The Global Committee mourns the passing of Ambassador Zuccoli

It is with deep sorrow that we have learned that the Ambassador in Bulgaria of the Sovereign Order of Malta, Camillo Zuccoli, passed away on 3 February at the age of 61. He was Ambassador of the Order to Bulgaria since 2007. “Thanks to his outstanding activity and his love for Bulgaria, 460 humanitarian, hospital, social and educational initiatives have been implemented in 177 different locations in Bulgaria”, wrote the Order.

Deeply monarchical and in love with freedom, his lively seriousness and the vast culture generated in him and around him an untiring and contagious industriousness impossible to resist to. Constantly committed to defending and promoting freedom, democracy and the rule of law in areas of the world that ranged from Taiwan to Venezuela, Camillo was a creative and thoughtful man who decided to support the Global Committee for the Rule of Law “Marco Pannella” since its creation in early 2016.

His loss saddens and impoverishes all of us. It will be an extremely difficult task to carry on without his encouragement and his unfailing smile, but we will keep up our common commitment to those values of freedom and compassion to which he was dedicated. It will be a difficult task because we have lost a friend today.

We express our condolences and closeness to his wife Ursula and his family.
