5th June: Meeting on the World Environment Day

On the 5th of June, World Environment Day, the Nonviolent Radical Party together with SIOI, Global Committee for the Rule of Law “Marco Pannella”, Hands Off Cain, Siracusa International Institute and IAI will hold a conference on the right to know applied to environmental issues.

The recent appointment of Scott Pruitt as head of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) re-opened the debate on climate change and re-launched the urgent need to set up a compelling European climate and environment emergency strategy, two priority themes equally important as those of transatlantic security and defense.

The European Union should rapidly set up and launch coordinated action at global level to accelerate the pursuit of #COP21/2015 goals and #Marrakesh2016: for example, *qualified specialists* could be appointed, with the rank of Government Ministers, to urgently liaise with Washington, Beijing, Moscow, New Delhi, Brasilia and in multilateral institutions, so as to elaborate and put forward a Global Action Plan of Implementation” of the international agreements signed so far.

A great deal of diplomatic skills to craft the European strategy is needed, avoiding clamor and clashes that could create bad and unreasonable fractures between the EU and the US: but the struggle against climate change and the conviction that science has largely clarified their fearsome threat to survival of man, requires us to work tirelessly in this direction, consistently with the goals that Italy has always pursued on this matter. These topics will be discussed with diplomats and experts at the SIOI headquarters on June 5, 2017 in the World Environment Day.
