Meeting with Taiwanese delegation at the Italian Parliament

On Monday 5 February, a meeting was held at the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Chamber of Deputies in the presence of President Fabrizio Cicchitto, with a delegation of Taiwanese parliamentarians. The Asian delegation, headed by Ambassador Ching-shan Hou, awarded Hon. Chicchitto and Senator Giuseppe Marinello, President of the Senate Committee on Territory and Environment, a medal to the Diplomatic Merit as a sign of appreciation and gratitude for their support during the legislature now ended. The meeting was also attended by GCRL President Giulio Terzi and Amb. Camillo Zuccoli, both attentive active observers of issues related to the rule of law and freedom on the Taiwanese island.

President Cicchitto underlined how, during his mandate as chairman of the Commission, he paid particular attention to the political and commercial relations with Taiwan given the geo-strategic importance that the country has been representing for years, especially in the light of an increasingly evident Chinese expansionism.

Ambassador Ching-shan Hou recalled the visit paid by President Terzi in Taipei in spring 2015 to address a conference on “Rule of Law and Global Security” held in the Taiwanese Diplomatic Academy. He also thanked both Giulio Terzi and Camillo Zuccoli for meeting the leaders of the World League for Freedom and Democracy, in Sofia, Bulgaria, in June 2016.
